I DO Speak English….Right????

It’s true…sometimes I wonder.
When Andre prepares his classes, sometimes he asks me a question about a word or a phrase. Like, “How would you explain that word?” or “How is this pronounced?” That’s all fine and good, and I like to help. The problem comes when it is a word that we really don’t use that often in English. Like “futile”. Seriously, how often do you use that word, or even hear it used?? Well, it came up, so I said it one way. Then I pronounced it a different way. I didn’t like the way it sounded, so I switched back. The whole time, Andre is looking at me like I am crazy. He says, “Oh!! The American doesn’t know English! hahahaha!” I replied, “I know English, but you make me second-guess myself!” But then, I start thinking… “DO I know English? What if I am saying it wrong? After all, I AM from Tennessee…” It starts a little mind war inside my head. Generally, the good side of my brain decides that I DO know English, and I scold the bad side for its futile attempt at making me think otherwise
