I’ve become addicted to constantly searching for new Brazilian music to listen to. Prior to my most recent trip to Rio de Janeiro, I had listened to a few Brazilian artists. However, since I’ve been on the hunt for more, my list of faves has increased. Here are a few of my favorite artists and some of my favorite songs:
Vanessa Da Mata
-She has a really cool voice, and I particularly like “Não Me Deixe Só” and “Boa Sorte“, which is a duet with American artist, Ben Harper.
Lenine
-I don’t know much about him yet, but I stumbled across his song, “É O Que Me Interessa“, and I love it.
Sorriso Maroto
-I have several of his songs on my iPod, but my favorite would have to be “Por Você“.
Tony Mola
-My NEW fave! I found one of his cd’s (“Samba+Samba“) at McKay Bookstore in Chattanooga. (For $2.95, might I add
) And I absolutely LOVE it!! He is a samba percussionist, so he isn’t the singer on the album, but from what I’ve read, he is a singer as well as a percussionist. He also helped write several of the songs on the cd. My two favorites would be “Os Chorões” e “Toma Uma Beijoca“. I have become obsessed with listening to this cd. Just ask my mom…..I play it in the car all the time!
Also, a couple of weeks ago, André introduced me to a radio station in Rio that broadcasts on the web. So, I listen to live Brazilian radio at least twice a week….mostly when I’m at work

As I find more songs to fall in love with, I’ll share.
